“A child should have a book in his hand, not a hammer” . With this resolution a district level workshop against child labour has been organized by the Koraput district administration in collaboration with the State Child Rights Protection Commission at the local Sadbhavana Sabha, under the chairmanship of District Collector Manoj Satyavan Mahajan, all the departments prepared a joint action plan for the elimination of child labour.
Under the guidance of State Child Rights Protection Commission Chairperson Smt. Babita Patra, all the departmental officers took an oath to make Koraput a child labour free district.
Professor Biraj Swain National Law University , Odisha explained the provisions of the law through life stories. From the Child Labour Prohibition Act of 1986 to the Right to Education Act of 2009, he drew a picture of how a child’s hand holds a pen for each letter. The bitter reality of child labour hidden in the hills and forests of Odisha was presented with facts.
The special training centre of the National Child Labour Project was presented as the “second home of rescued children”. Emphasis was placed on the joint efforts of the Department of Labour, Education and SC/ST Development. “From rescue to rehabilitation” , a detailed discussion was held on the responsibilities of each stage, their clear outline.
