NDRF Deploys Team in Koraput for Cyclone Response, Rescue Operations
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed one of its teams in Koraput district as part of preparedness measures for the approaching cyclone, with specialised personnel and equipment kept ready to respond to emergencies caused by heavy rainfall, flooding and other storm-related damage.
Dr. Tirthabasi Sahu , the Commandant of the team said that 12 NDRF teams had already been deployed across Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, while two additional teams had been pre-deployed at Balasore and Bhilai to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
The NDRF is coordinating with district administrations to ensure prompt mobilisation of rescue teams wherever their services are required. Dr. Sahu said the specialised teams were prepared to operate round the clock and respond to requests from the administration, with the primary objective of preventing loss of life and reaching affected areas without delay.
Heavy rainfall associated with the cyclone could lead to flooding, waterlogging, uprooted trees, blocked roads and people getting trapped inside houses, posing serious challenges for rescue operations.
To deal with such eventualities, the NDRF team has five boats and life jackets to evacuate people from flooded areas. RR saws and carbide-tip chain saws are also available to remove fallen trees and clear access routes for rescuers to reach people stranded or trapped by fallen trees.
Dr. Sahu said the personnel and equipment were ready for deployment according to the emerging situation. He also stated that the NDRF team stationed in Puri was prepared to face the impending weather conditions.
The deployment and advance positioning of specialised teams are aimed at ensuring a coordinated and swift response in vulnerable areas as the state steps up its preparedness for the approaching cyclone.
