One Gate in D-Dam of Machkund Opened

Following two days of continuous rainfall, the water level at the Machkund Hydroelectric Project's D-dam in Lamtaput Block reached a critical mark, prompting the authorities to open one of the gates to release water. Gate No. 6 has been opened by two feet and six inches, allowing for a discharge of 2,600 cusecs of water per second. The gate was opened after the water level touched 2,587.9 feet against the reservoir's capacity of 2,590 feet. Yesterday, rainfall of 104 mm was recorded in Lamtaput Block and 121 mm in Nandapur Block; heavy downpours continue in both areas. Project officials have indicated that other gates may be opened if the rainfall intensifies further.
